Timeless English villages

Near to the yoghurtrooms we have a number of classic English villages, including Hartfield and Forest Row. Hartfield goes back to 1086 and is recorded in the Domesday Book. It is said the real-life Christopher Robin (from Winnie the Pooh) shopped here in the 1920s. Forest Row sits on the edge of the Ashdown Forest and lays claim to celebrity residents such as Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour and comedian and author Ben Elton.

Country pubs

Naturally with the English village comes the country pub, and around here we have an abundance. The Brambletye Hotel in Forest Row was a favourite haunt of Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Others in the same village also score high in good beer guides, and include The Chequers, The Swan and The Hatch. In Hartfield we recommend you try The Anchor Inn, The Hay Waggon Inn and The Dorset Arms which all typify heritage and possess their own distinctive rural feel.

Close to the Ashdown Forest

The famous and vast Ashdown Forest is only ten minutes from the yoghurtrooms. With an area of 6,500 acres of sumptuous heath and pine, birch and oak woodland, the region is the inspirational home of AA Milne’s Winnie the Pooh. More recently it was used as a location for the HBO/BBC TV series Band of Brothers. Ashdown Forest is part of the High Weald area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that spans across Southern England, and it’s definitely well worth a trip during a break from recording sessions.

Close to East Grinstead and the Bluebell Railway

Living on our green farm means you are just a 15-minute stroll away from the market town of East Grinstead. Steeped in history the town contains the finest examples of 14th century timber-framed houses in England. It’s also home to the famous Bluebell Railway, a heritage line for steam trains originally joining East Grinstead and Lewes. Thanks to a restoration programme you can now ride between nearby Kingscote and Sheffield Park.

From East Grinstead you may also consider visiting Chartwell in Kent, the historic home of Winston Churchill, only half an hour by car.
